HOW I PLANNED MY ENGAGEMENT PHOTOSHOOT
I learned so much being on the other side of the camera. Here’s everything I’ve learned and how I planned my engagement session.
I’ll start by saying decision fatigue is real! At least it was real for me when it came to deciding so many factors like outfits to wear, where to take our photos, the props etc. As someone who’s been a photographer for years, you’d think it’d be much easier to decide on things, but the truth is, I felt this incredible pressure to create the most, unique, creative vision for these photos.
Then I sat back with my fiancé and came to the conclusion that it was more important to be authentic to who we are, and that’s probably not super trendy, but we knew it would make for timeless photos we’d cherish in the future . We’re a pretty chill couple, we don’t wear fancy clothes, we enjoy talking about finance and ways we can be frugal to save for the future. We love traveling, and most of our dates are outdoors. On our second date ever, I asked David to go watch the sunrise in Hollywood Beach with me, so for our photos, we decided on that beach at sunrise.
For outfits, I ended up wearing the dress I was wearing when David proposed in Hawaii, along with a dress my photographer lent me. They were comfortable, matched with the location, and made me focus solely on our love during the photos. David on the other hand, wanted to only wear one outfit, but while we were taking photos, he ended up changing and swapping clothes about four times (which I didn’t even notice until after the session lol.) That’s why you’ll see he swapped between 3 shirts and two pants in the photos hahahhaa. He said he wanted to make sure there was variety, but I’m pretty sure he was just nervous.
As props, I decided to bring a blanket, create a simple picnic setup, and bring extra champagne to spray. By the end of the session, we cleaned up and packed up all our things except the baguette we decided to feed to the birds. The last two photos, shows you what happened after throwing pieces of bread in the air! All the seagulls went crazy, flying around us trying to catch a piece of bread. (Not pictured, me running as fast as I can trying to get away from the birds landing on my head HAHA). I hope you enjoy this set captured by our good friend Naivys.
